Can Xero work for a large business? For many growing UK businesses, yes, for longer than people expect. The question is not the size of the business but the shape of the finance work: how many entities, how much stock, and how much has to happen outside the accounts.
This guide sets out what Xero's larger plans include, where bigger businesses tend to feel the limits, and what your options are when you reach them.
What Xero offers growing businesses

Xero's top UK plans are aimed at scaling businesses. On Xero's UK pricing page, Comprehensive is £55 a month and Ultimate is £70 a month, excluding VAT, after an introductory offer.
Both include multiple currencies. Ultimate adds expense claims and project time and cost tracking for 10 users, while Comprehensive covers expense claims for 5 users. Xero also says it integrates with more than 1,000 apps, which is how many larger businesses extend it.
Key PointXero's limits are rarely about turnover. They show up when the business needs several entities, serious stock control or more people working in the system than a plan's user limits allow.
Where larger businesses feel the limits

As a business grows, the signs that Xero is being stretched tend to look like this:
- Several entities. A group view often means exporting and combining figures from each company outside the accounts.
- Stock and operations. Inventory, purchasing and fulfilment move into separate apps, and every app is another connection to keep in sync.
- Many users and approvals. More people need access, and approval workflows move into email or add-ons.
- Reporting outside the system. Board packs and management accounts are rebuilt in spreadsheets each month.
None of these means Xero is wrong for you today. Each one is a cost that grows quietly, which is why it is worth listing them before deciding.
Pro TipWrite down every app connected to Xero and every spreadsheet used to close the month. That list tells you more about whether you have outgrown Xero than your turnover does.
Your options when you outgrow Xero

There are three realistic routes:
- Stay on Xero and add apps. If one or two specific gaps are the problem, an add-on is usually cheaper than a migration.
- Move to a finance-first system if your main need is multi-entity accounting rather than operations.
- Move to an ERP such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, which runs finance, sales, purchasing and inventory in one system.
Business Central can consolidate data from several companies into one consolidated company. Microsoft's UK list price for Essentials is £61.50 per user per month, paid yearly and excluding VAT, before implementation.
Watch OutAn ERP is a project, not a subscription switch. Budget for implementation, data migration and training as well as the licences.
